Powerbox (PRBX) has two opportunities to win in prestigious Elektra Awards
News, Pressrelease
With its Elektra Awards, Electronics Weekly seeks to recognize the best of what the electronics industry has to offer, worldwide. The Awards recognize excellence within the global electronics industry, and has welcomed entries from manufacturers, distributors, designers, individuals, research groups and start-ups in order to accurately reflect the nature of today’s dynamic electronics industry. Despite the challenges of 2020, the Awards are now going ahead as a free virtual event on March 25, 2021.
The Awards finalists have now been announced and Powerbox has no less than two products shortlisted in the competitive Power System Product of the Year award!
Says Chief Marketing and Communication Officer Patrick Le Fevre, “Powerbox has made a habit of being shortlisted for the prestigious Elektra Awards and in fact has actually won the Power System Product of the Year award on a previous occasion. Now, with an excellent two products being chosen for the shortlist, we are in an excellent position to once again lift a prize. It is an excellent achievement by the whole of the Powerbox team, from design to delivery.”
The first of the shortlisted products, Powerbox’s OFI600A12 power supply is an ‘industry first’ power supply solution for immersed applications such as hyper loaded computing machines. It is the first commercial power supply designed to meet immersed applications specifications and guarantee the highest level of safety for system and operators.
The OFI600A12 is the result of two years of research and development and has been validated by Powerbox’s R&D and quality teams as a certified platform for a new generation of power supplies for immersed applications.
It is designed to have the lowest possible inrush current, less than 10A at 264VAC. The product has an input voltage of 187 to 265VAC, dual outputs comprising a master 12V/600W and an independent auxiliary of 5V/10W, and its efficiency is up to 93%.
The OFI600A12 includes remote On/Off, remote reset, over-current and over-voltage protection and complies with safety and EMC regulations. The unit is protected by a conformal coating and complies with the RoHS and REACH directives.
The second Powerbox product to be chosen is the SMM3000A80024C laser power supply, purposely designed to address high peak load applications in the medical laser industry. A good medical laser has less than a millisecond pulse width, meaning that it is incredibly fast-firing, requiring the power supply to be able to deliver high energy levels during the pulse, but also able to restore energy for the next pulse. However, high peak energy and the repetition thereof generates electromagnetic radiation and line disturbance. When considering the design of such a power supply this is a tough call, and to meet such demanding requirements is indeed a great challenge. However, by combining digital power and some special Powerbox innovations, the PRBX AC/DC capacitor charger SMM3000A80024C very effectively meets these requirements.
For complete control, the SMM3000A80024C has a built-in microprocessor constantly monitoring the charging status, reporting end of charge and discharge level, as well as all protection warnings due to abnormal operation such as over-temperature, over-voltage and current.
The power supply delivers 2.25kW repetitive peak power to medical lasers with high efficiency, and importantly it complies with the medical safety standard IEC60601-1 3rd.
